The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
Written during the July 1830 Revolution, The
Hunchback of Notre Dame tells a moving story of a
gypsy girl Esmeralda and the deformed bell ringer,
Quasimodo, who loves her. In the novel, which was
profoundly affected by the historical and political trends
of the early nineteenth century, Hugo incorporates the
political legacy of 1789 and 1830 revolutions into The
Hunchback of Notre Dame.
